Four Weekends and a Funeral

I have not posted in quite a while!

Life. Work. Illness. Sad events, and other occurrences can pop up and derail the best laid plans. Such events cannot be factored into dedicated training, optimal nutrition, mental readiness, and being 100% prepared for a competitive event.

You never know when you'll be faced with the decision to not compete.

A few weeks ago I was ready for the CrossFit Circuit du Quebec competition being held at CrossFit Montreal: a fun competitive event including open to all CrossFit boxes in Quebec. The event workouts had been posted, I had practiced each workout, had my mini "Ack! I can't do it" meltdown and had gotten into my " I am cool, calm, and ready" headspace, and my peers and I had gone over every detail of what could right, what could go wrong, and set up our strategies for the day's events.

Unfortunately, my hubby's uncle suddenly passed away a few days before the event, and I was faced with a decision.

Ultimately, the love of family needing comfort during a difficult time was the only decision.
Disappointed as I was not to be able to compete, in the grand scheme of things I suppose it was not that important, I mean this was not a Joannie Rochette* type situation, and perhaps it just was not meant to be.

I still worked hard to get to that point and the gains that I achieved are not lost. I will remain focused on the bigger picture and up and coming competitions...because there will be others...many others; and you only get one family.

So until the next opportunity to compete arises, I'll keep on my slow and steady path of progress and hope for the best.

* In case you don't remember who she is; she is the Olympic figure skater who overcame the tragic death of her mother a few days before she was scheduled to compete in the 2010 winter games in Vancouver B.C. and went on to win bronze and the hearts of Canadians.
