I love this picture...for more fun 'toons http://www.nataliedee.com/Vacation MIA?
After training hard for months, and basically being permanently sore before CrossFit Eastern Canada sectionals, I will be taking a much needed two week holiday "away from it all". Relaxing overseas, straying away from my Zone/paleo type nutrition regimen (Cake!) , and training considerably less than the usual 1-2 hours a day 6 days a week.
Can I really do that? Well , not really. Much to my man's dismay I have been seeking out workout locations and opportunities in our holiday host city. Is there a CrossFit there? Where can I run? Will we go rowing? It's slightly obsessive...
Do I plan on relaxing, not worrying so much about workout quantity? Yes, absolutely, but can I "fall off the wagon" so to speak and not do anything at all? that's a negative.
As an athletic person, I've worked hard to get to where I am. I recognize that rest is an essential part of the fitness equation, and that I need to take time off to get stronger. A vacation does help do that, but it's not a good idea to become completely undone, especially if your goals have not yet been attained. Modifying your workouts, your schedule and eating habits are inevitable part of a holiday, and that is great, but no one wants to restart from scratch when they return , or lose the gains they worked so hard to attain.
So I'll be having my cake, eating it too, but I'll also be hitting the gym or squeezing in some dirty met cons here and there, just to maintain.
Bon Voyage!
